Assignment, not booking

There is no calendar here and there will not be one. A storage cage is not reserved from two until four — it is somebody's until they give it up, which is a completely different record with a completely different question attached to it. What you need to answer is “who has L-07”, not “is L-07 free on Thursday”.

The charge is a figure you typed

Where an amenity carries a monthly charge, the register keeps it so the row says what was agreed. It bills nobody, posts to no ledger and adds nothing to anybody's rent: this is a note of what the assignment costs, held beside who has it, so the two do not live in different places.

Questions people ask

Why is there no availability calendar?
Because this is not a booking system and pretending otherwise would make it worse at its actual job. A locker is assigned until it is released. If you need a room people reserve by the hour, that is a different tool and this one would answer the wrong question badly.
Does the monthly charge get billed anywhere?
No. Nothing here bills, invoices or posts to a ledger. The figure records what the assignment costs so the register reads as a complete statement of the arrangement. Billing it is separate, and stays separate.
Can two people share one cage?
Add two rows against the same reference. The register does not stop you, and it does not merge them: each row has its own id, its own dates and its own history, which is what you want when one of the two moves out.
What counts as an amenity here?
Anything ordinary that gets assigned for a stretch of time — a locker, a storage cage, a bike space, a mailbox. If it is issued and taken back on the same day, or it needs a schedule, this is not the right register.
