Which space is whose, which vehicle is on it, when the permit runs from, and whether it came back.

The space is the row, not the car

People change cars. A space assigned to unit 4B stays assigned to unit 4B when the Corolla becomes a pickup, so the row is the space and the vehicle is a detail on it. That is also what makes the register answerable in the direction anybody actually asks: somebody is parked in 22, and you need to know within ten seconds whether they should be.

A permit register is not enforcement

Nothing here tows anything, issues a fine or states a rule. What your residents may park, where, and what happens when they do not is your own policy and your own lease. This holds the record of what you assigned and to whom — which is the thing that is missing at eleven at night when somebody calls about a car in their space.

Questions people ask

Should I record license plate numbers?
A plate is ordinary property administration and the vehicle field is there for it. What does not belong here is anything from a government document — driver's license numbers, insurance policy details, identification numbers. This tool is not built to hold them, and a parking register is not a reason to start collecting them.
Can I track visitor parking with it?
You can, though it is built for standing assignments rather than for a two-hour visitor pass. Log the space, put the visit in the dates, and close the row when it is over. If you need per-hour booking, this is the wrong shape: an assignment runs until somebody gives it up.
What happens when a resident moves out?
Move the row to Ended and the space reads as free. The row stays, with who had it and when, which is what you want when the next person asks how long the space has been empty or when somebody disputes a charge.
Does it stop me assigning one space twice?
No. It shows you the register; the decision is yours. A tool that refused a second assignment would be wrong the first time somebody legitimately overlaps a handover by a day, and would then be a tool people work around.
