Why this exists

The tools on this site produce documents. A document is only worth anything if you know what it has to contain, and that knowledge is normally locked behind statute numbers, paywalled code books and consultants. These are the short version: what the rule actually says, in words people use out loud, with the citation next to it so you can check us.

Nothing here is invented

Every requirement carries the rule that imposes it. Where something is industry practice rather than law, it says so and is never given a borrowed code citation. Where we couldn’t verify a state’s rule, the page says that too, and tells you which agency to ask.
