Credit reference request log
RegisterWho you asked for a reference, when, and whether anything came back.
The request, not the answer
The useful thing to track is the gap: you sent four reference requests and one never came back. That is a fact about your process. What the references actually said is commercial information about somebody else, and it belongs in your own files rather than in a browser.
No identification numbers, anywhere
No EIN, no SSN and no last four digits. A field invites somebody to fill it in, and a partial government identifier is still a government identifier. The absence is the design.
It reaches no conclusion
No score, no grade, no risk rating and no recommendation. The stages say whether a reply arrived — sent, no reply yet, replied — and nothing in the vocabulary can be mistaken for a credit decision.

Questions people ask
- Why can I not record what the reference said?
- Because the content of a trade or bank reference is somebody else’s commercial information about a third party, and a browser with no account behind it is the wrong place for it. This log records that you asked and whether they replied. Where the answer goes is your own filing, wherever you keep sensitive material.
- Can I store the applicant’s tax ID or Social Security number?
- No. There is no field for one and there will not be. That is true of the whole of this batch: no EIN, no SSN, not even the last four digits, which is still a fragment of a government identifier.
- Does it decide whether to give somebody credit?
- No. It makes no credit decision, calculates no limit, produces no score and grades nobody. Whether to extend credit and on what terms is your decision — this only makes sure you know which references never came back.
- Is this a consumer credit report?
- No, and it must not be used as one. It holds no consumer report content and connects to no bureau. Requesting and using consumer reports is regulated; if that is what you are doing, it belongs in a system built for it, under advice.
- What does the chase date do?
- Nothing automatic. It is a date you chose, so a list can show you what is overdue. No reminder is sent and no interval is suggested.
