Hours log

Field record

Who worked, on what day, for how long, on which job. A record of hours — nothing more.

It records hours. It does not run payroll.

No wage, no rate, no overtime entitlement, no tax, no deduction, no benefit, no paycheck amount. Those depend on wage and hour law, on how a worker is classified and on your own agreements — and a free browser tool that produced a number anybody paid from would be doing real harm.

The category on a line is a label you chose, on the same terms as the category on the expense log. Marking a line “overtime” is your own sorting; it is not a determination and it entitles nobody to anything.

What it is good for

Answering “how many hours went into this” with something better than a memory. A week, a job, a list of people and dates, printed at the end of it. Then hand it to whoever does actually run your payroll.

Beside it

Crew counts per company per day belong on the manpower & equipment log. What a job cost in total is the job profitability view, which works from the invoices and bills already on the device.

A record of hours somebody worked. IT IS NOT PAYROLL: it calculates no wages, pay rate, overtime entitlement, payroll tax, deduction, benefit or paycheck amount, and the category on a line is a label you chose rather than a determination that any hour is legally overtime. Whether an hour is compensable, and at what rate, is set by wage and hour law and by your own agreements. Everything runs on your device.

Questions people ask

Does this calculate pay?
No. It calculates no wage, no rate, no overtime entitlement, no payroll tax, no deduction, no benefit and no paycheck amount. It records hours. Those calculations depend on wage and hour law, on the classification of the worker and on your own agreements, and none of that is something a free browser tool should be deciding.
The category says 'Overtime'. Is that a legal determination?
No. It is a label you chose for your own sorting, exactly like the category field on the expense log. Whether an hour is legally overtime turns on the jurisdiction, the workweek, the classification and the agreement — and marking a line 'Overtime' here changes nothing and entitles nobody to anything. If that ambiguity bothers you, use your own words in the field.
Can I use this as a legal time record?
Whether a record satisfies a recordkeeping requirement is a question for the rule that imposes it and usually for your own counsel or payroll provider — this tool makes no claim that it does. What it gives you is a dated, printable record of hours somebody typed, kept on your own device.
Why is it attached to a job?
Because 'how many hours went into this job' is the question most people are actually trying to answer, and a job here has a stable id so the answer stays right when a customer or a job is renamed. Hours with no job go on the sheet just the same — the job is the sheet's, not the row's.
