NFPA 101 / NFPA 105 schedule
Every requirement carries its code section and the edition it was verified against. ★ = qualified in-house under the national code, but licensing commonly required locally — confirm with your AHJ.
The four monthly checks below are CompliMaint’s recommended cadence, not a code interval. NFPA 101 requires corridor doors to latch, hazardous-area doors to self-close and self-latch, smoke barriers to stay sealed and decorations to stay within flame-spread and corridor-width limits — as a continuous condition. It sets no inspection frequency for any of them, so a monthly walk is how a facility keeps that condition true and can evidence it, not a duty NFPA 101 imposes. The annual smoke door assembly inspection is a stated interval (NFPA 105 Ch. 5). These sections are NFPA 101 Chapter 19 — existing health care occupancies. They are not the schedule for an office, a warehouse or a general commercial building, which fall under other chapters of the same code. The section numbers are the 2012 edition, the one CMS adopted; the current published edition is 2024 and your state fire marshal may enforce a third. Where a door is part of a rated assembly, its listing and the manufacturer’s instructions govern how it is inspected.
