Why the receipt is the wrong record
A till receipt fades, and it never says which job it was for. The useful record is the one somebody makes in the truck two minutes later: where, how much, what for, and which building or job it belongs to. That is what this asks for, and it is why the description field matters more than the amount.
Where this stops, deliberately
This is not bookkeeping. No ledger, no double entry, no reconciliation, no financial statements, and no bank account is ever seen. The category is your own label rather than a tax class, and no tax is computed anywhere in this tool. It connects to no accounting package; an export is a CSV you download, which is a file and not an integration.
The rest of the money side
The vendor bill tracker is the other half: what a vendor billed you, with a due date, rather than what somebody spent at a counter. What a job cost against what it was quoted at is job profit, and the parts you already hold are in the parts inventory.

- What is an expense and receipt log for?
- A technician buys a part at a counter and the receipt goes in a pocket. Weeks later somebody needs to know what a job actually cost, and the receipt is gone or unreadable. This records the line while it is still fresh: where it was spent, how much, what for, who spent it and which job or building it belongs to.
- Are the categories tax categories?
- No. The category is a free label for your own sorting — "parts", "fuel", "tools". It is deliberately not a fixed list, because a fixed list would be a chart of accounts. This tool computes no tax, applies no deduction rules and takes no position on how anything should be classified for a return.
- Is this accounting or bookkeeping software?
- No. There is no ledger, no double entry, no reconciliation and no financial statements. Nothing is matched against a bank account, because this tool never sees one. It records what you type and adds it up, which is arithmetic rather than accounting.
- Can I attach a photo of the receipt?
- Not in this version. Everything here stays in your browser on your own device, and storing images there fills the available space quickly and unpredictably. Recording the details in words is what makes the line findable later; the paper can go wherever you already keep paper.
- Does it connect to accounting software?
- No. There is no integration with any accounting package and nothing is sent anywhere. You can download what you have entered as a CSV file, which is a file on your computer rather than a connection to anything.
- Where is the data stored?
- In your browser, on the device you typed it on. It is not sent to a server, not synced between devices and not visible to us. Clearing browser data removes it, so use the backup export if it matters.
This records what was spent, in your own words, so a receipt in somebody's pocket becomes a line you can find. The category is your label for your own sorting — it is not a tax category and this tool computes no tax. Nothing here is reconciled against a bank or sent anywhere.
