- Does it decide who gets a 1099?
- No, and this is the most important thing on the page. It applies no dollar threshold, reads no tax rule, classifies nobody as a contractor or an employee, and makes no determination that any payment is reportable. Those depend on facts and law this product has not been told about.
- Why is there no threshold?
- Because a threshold in software becomes a decision. Reporting thresholds change, they differ by payment type, and whether a particular payment counts turns on details not on this page. The amount box records what you paid; the status beside it is one you set.
- Can I store the vendor’s EIN?
- No. No EIN, no SSN and no last four digits. Track the request for the W-9 on the request log; keep the form itself wherever you keep sensitive documents.
- What is the classification field for?
- Recording what the vendor told you — sole proprietor, LLC, corporation. It is their statement, written down. Nothing here verifies it or draws a conclusion from it.
- Does it file anything?
- No. It files nothing with anybody, produces no form and submits nothing. It is the list you hand to whoever does file.
