The record that has to be neutral

A nonconformance log is read later by people who were not there, sometimes in an argument. That is exactly why it should record what was found, what was proposed, who agreed it and what was done — and should not contain a website's opinion about whether anything conformed.

It certifies nothing

No stage means verified, approved or accepted-by-us. Closing an item means you closed it. This product reads no specification and issues no finding; the words on the stages were chosen so a screenshot cannot be read as a determination by anybody.

Questions people ask

Does this decide whether something conforms?
No. It reads no specification, no drawing and no standard, and it makes no determination. A row is your record that you identified something as not matching what was asked for. Whether it does, and what happens about it, is for whoever administers the contract and — where design is involved — the designer.
What does closing an item mean?
That you are satisfied and are finished with the row. It is not a verification, an acceptance or a certification, and the stage is worded so it cannot be read as one. Accepting a departure from the documents is a decision somebody with authority makes on their own paper.
Who numbers the NCRs?
You do, or your quality plan does. The tool never generates a number, because a number this product invented is a number nobody else on the job can find. The stable identity behind the scenes is separate, so two items numbered the same are still two items.
How is this different from the corrective action tracker?
The corrective action tracker is kept against a building you operate, for findings from inspections, surveys and incidents. This is kept against a job under construction, for work that does not match the contract documents. Different subject, different lifecycle, different reader.
