Billing increments are set by an engagement letter, by the rules of professional conduct where you practice and sometimes by a court. A free tool that quietly rounded twelve minutes up to a quarter of an hour would be applying a rule nobody told it, to somebody’s bill. So the hours column takes decimals you type, the total is a sum of what you typed, and there is no rate field anywhere on the sheet.

Billable is a marker, not a judgment

You can mark an entry billable, non-billable or not decided, and the sheet records the marker without doing anything with it. Nothing here totals the two separately, produces a fee, or takes a view on whether an entry is reasonable, proportionate or properly recorded. Those are questions for your engagement terms and the rules that apply to you.

Questions people ask

What billing increment does it use?
None. Hours are decimals you type and the total is their sum. CompliMaint applies no six-minute unit, no quarter hour and no rounding rule of any kind.
Can I put a rate in and get a fee?
No. There is no rate field and no money anywhere on the sheet, deliberately. A total in money is a bill, and producing one would mean this product taking a view on what may be charged.
Does the total separate billable from non-billable?
No. It adds the hours column across every row that has a number in it. The billable marker is recorded and nothing is calculated from it.
Is each week a new sheet?
Yes. A sheet is one period on one matter, and next week is a new one — so last week’s sheet still says what last week was, rather than being edited into something else.
