New matter intake checklist

Checklist

The steps you take when a file opens, who is doing each one, and which are actually done.

The checklist is not the file

There is no box here for the client’s account of events, for the other side’s names, for the facts of the matter or for anything financial — and no large narrative box anywhere on the form, because a large empty box is an invitation to put all four in one. What this holds is administration: reference allocated, conflict search logged, scope confirmed in writing, storage set up. Where the matter itself lives is your decision and stays there.

The starter steps are a starting point, not a requirement

Eight ordinary opening steps come pre-filled because the administration around opening a file is much the same everywhere. CompliMaint does not know what your jurisdiction, your insurer, your bar or your own engagement terms require when a file opens, states nothing about it, and none of the eight is advice. Edit them, delete them, add your own.

The rest of the matter tools: Matter tracker · Conflict check log · Matter deadline tracker

An administrative checklist of file-opening steps. CompliMaint gives no legal advice, states no intake requirement, sets no deadline, and holds no client narrative, opposing-party detail or matter facts. Everything runs on your device.

Questions people ask

Is this legal advice about what intake requires?
No. CompliMaint gives no legal advice and states no intake requirement. The starter list is ordinary office administration, and what your rules of professional conduct, your insurer or your engagement terms actually require is a question for somebody who knows them.
Why is there nowhere to write what the matter is about?
Because an intake checklist is a list of opening steps, not a case file. A tool with a big free-text box on it collects the client’s story, the other side’s details and the facts of the dispute by accident. Those belong wherever you keep the file.
Does it set a deadline for opening a file?
No. Every date on a row is one you typed. CompliMaint states no intake deadline of any kind and counts nothing down.
Where is the data kept?
Without an account: on the device you are using, in your browser — nothing is uploaded, nothing is sent anywhere, and there is nothing to sign up for, so clearing your browser storage clears it. Signed into a CompliMaint workspace, the same records are also stored for that workspace — which is what puts them on your other devices and in front of your colleagues — and the screen says which of the two you are looking at.
